Getting to Know the Different Types of Fence Materials

Fences have always been a means of ensuring security and privacy, even during the glory days of zigzag fences. Today, a variety of fencing types made with different materials are available, each one having its unique advantages and disadvantages. So, check out the list below to learn which fence material is best for your next fencing project.

Redwood and teak

If you want to invest in a natural and lustre fence, your best option is a redwood or teak fence. However, these fencing materials are pricier compared to most fence materials. Since they are expensive, you can only see redwood and teak fences in limited areas. For instance, they are often used to enclose pools and spas. Redwood and teak can resist decay, insects, warping, and shrinking due to elements naturally. This characteristic is quite similar to cedar.

Cedar is another popular fencing material that provides a long-lasting good appearance. It gives off a beautiful red hue with light grain, and it doesn’t shrink or warp. However, you need to build a concrete base to install cedar fences. Treated fence posts can be an alternative if you don’t wish to make a concrete base.

Vinyl fencing has existed for a few years now. Yet, it is still considered a new fence material today. In the past, vinyl fencing products were more likely to sag, yellow, or become brittle. Manufacturers of the new generation of vinyl fences offer sturdier products in different styles and sizes. After successful installation, vinyl fencing won’t require further maintenance. Small dirt is easy to remove with a mild detergent and water.

Fencing contractors in Leicester often use metal fences to provide a higher degree of security to the properties they surround. Usually, metal fences range from classic to modern with different colours and designs. The three main types of fencing you can choose from under the metal category are wrought iron, aluminium, and chain link.

Wrought iron fences are extremely durable. They also look classic and come with different intricate patterns. Aluminium fencing, on the other hand, is resistant to rust. Chain link fences don’t offer much privacy but are cheaper than the other two.

Brick, concrete, block, and stone fences look aesthetic surrounding a property. However, they cost more than other fencing materials. They also require professional help for installation. Masonry fencing is heavy, and you need to pour a structural footing under the frost line, or the depth wherein groundwater is stored in the soil might freeze. Usually, this type of material is used with other fencing materials like wood or wrought iron.

Composite fences are made with plastic polymers and wood fibres. They give off an appearance like wood without the tendency to corrode due to rot and insects. Composite fences are slightly costlier than cedar and vinyl fences but are similar because they require professional installation.

Lastly, choose a fencing material depending on factors such as your location, the weather condition, and the type of property they will serve. Another thing that you have to consider is your budget. However, it should not compromise the security of the fence.
